Re: Should we sign Charlie Austin or Loic Remy?
The Queens Park Rangers striker still faces the possibility of a Chelsea move.

Newcastle United and West Ham United are yet to bid for Charlie Austin because the QPR front man will not commit to anyone else while he knows he could end up at Chelsea, according to the Shields Gazette.

Indeed, the QPR man has been linked with Chelsea and that has skewed the potential of a move elsewhere.

The Gazette report that as the reason for the Magpies and the Hammers not yet showing their hand in any potential Austin chase. Chelsea have now signed Radamel Falcao, while Leicester City are said to have had a bid rejected for Austin, but a Blues move is not yet fully off the table.

And, to add to the mix, the Chronicle also suggest Newcastle will now up their bid for the QPR man as they near a 'D-day' with regards to his future. All reports quote the R's as wanting £15 million for the 25-year-old.

The Remy factor

The factor that will decide any potential Austin-Chelsea deal is Loic Remy's future - and that has become less clear.

Should the Frenchman leave the Blues, the QPR striker will surely be sought as a replacement this summer.

However, Jose Mourinho has reportedly blocked any Stamford Bridge exit for Remy, who has been linked with West Ham to complicate things even further (both as per the Daily Mirror among others).

If Remy stays, then, both Newcastle and the Hammers can pursue Austin much more vigorously than previously. But, with a £15m asking price, there's still plenty to consider...

The chance of either would be a fine thing. You think we really have a choice? Now looks like we are going to take a punt on "someone" for half the price.

Speculation continues over the future of Charlie Austin after QPR rejected a £12m bid from Leicester.

Rangers want £15m for the striker and Leicester’s bid was the first offer or approach they have had for Austin despite numerous reports of them receiving both.

Newcastle were previously tipped to capture Austin but no move has materialised. However, the north-east media still insist Magpies boss Steve McClaren is in the running to sign him.

The Northern Echo say Newcastle are ready to battle for Austin’s signing but the newspaper believes he would rather stay in London and join West Ham.

Newcastle have been linked with Austin but have not made an approach

The Shields Gazette, which suggests Newcastle would be prepared to pay Austin big wages, believe the Magpies are having to play a waiting game because he is stalling to see if Chelsea come in for him.

Again the suggestion is that Austin, 25, would rather remain in the capital and join the Blues or West Ham.

I agree with all that, Sakho clearly is the only one who can deliver goals in the amount we need. I don't think it is a case of getting found out though as he is not one dimensional, but he could get injured, his back is a concern and he will be less effective as closely marked this season if our only main goal threat.

Re: Should we sign Charlie Austin or Loic Remy?
Too early to make any real judgements but Sakho did get injured a number of times last season.

Spot on below

Zarate will be useful with a long season ahead.

Austin £15 mil is no brainier, been a goalscorer wherever he has been and 18 goals in a woeful QPR side is very impressive.

Remy is just to injury prone for me, when Carroll gets crocked again we'll have a very long season with only Sakho as our out and out CF.

Would like Austin and a loan to come in, its the type of season where you would rather too many then not enough

Re: Should we sign Charlie Austin or Loic Remy?
Caroll is made of glass,
Zarate and Maiga are not good enough,
Valencia isn't an out and out striker,
Sakho is the only one we can rely on. And he may get found out in his 2nd season.

Off course we need another front man. It's no use creating loads of chances if noboby can put them away.

Scoring goals was a problem once Sakho got injured.

Honestly I have not seen you defend a single point before this post. You have said players are similar or aren't but not said why. You have called thing rubbish and made minor insults.
I have been making argument in good faith and you have been dismissing which is your right but without countering it with one of your own.

(Again Almeida has/had good movement?)

I "seem to be suggesting". Good thing that is not what I said, I said that history seems to shows that Bilic values a big striker, alongside whatever skills they have. Can Andy Carroll benefit from that I think and hope so and I think he can benefit from the skills of Payet - yes. Can we count on that ? - no. Hence my original point about Austin.

I am sure he can do a job with whatever strikers we have when the window closes but seemingly he likes to include a size element in mix.

Re: Should we sign Charlie Austin or Loic Remy?
I really don't think we need another centre forward Id much rather buy another top class wide man.
Bilic likes to play one up top we've got four forwards sakho the out and out front man Carroll the target man Valencia with pace and Zarate a No 10 so I think we have all the bases covered

I think of the three that play behind is where we are thin on the ground

Eerie Descent 12:46 Tue Jun 30
Re: Should we sign Charlie Austin or Loic Remy?
I have countered your points, why go over and over it?

You seem to be suggesting, in so many words, that Carroll is the only striker on our books that would fit Bilic as a manager. That is bollocks, because none of the strikers you have mentioned are particularly similar to Carroll. I'm certainly not saying Ba & Sakho are similar in particular, but I'd say they match up better than Ba & Carroll. All the strikers you mention, they have good movement, and as much as I like Carroll, I'd put movement down as one of his weaknesses.

Do you want me to explain it again and again, because you enjoy writing essays?

Please read what I originally wrote about Carroll. I said buy Austin for those reason.

(Almeida is nothing like Carroll?)

But once again, see my other post on this, I disagree that Ba is that much like Sakho. He has a body type which he uses to his advantage and that of his team mates that is different from Sakho while also having good pace and using that as well.

From what I see of his coaching history, Bilic values those physical qualities in Ba as well as his goal scoring.

Eerie Descent 12:25 Tue Jun 30
Re: Should we sign Charlie Austin or Loic Remy?
You are all over the gaff here, ioc.

None of the strikers you have mentioned are like Carroll, not even close. Ba is similar to Sakho if anything, what you're thinking there I have no idea. I'm not saying I don't rate Carroll, good striker when fit, but you'd have to be clinically insane to build your side with him in mind. He's 26 years old, and has had 1 full season playing as a first team regular, and that was 5 years ago.

The only striker you mentioned that you could say he was a bit similar to is Jelavic, and Bilic picked him because he was the best available for the country he was manager of.

With someone stocky or tall invariably.

And who he did not start at all in the 2012 Euros and who he used for a full match only twice in the qualifiers. He played more in games again Malta, Israel and Latvia not so much against the biggest competition Greece and Turkey.

There is a pretty clear pattern from Bilic is all I am saying.

And both were often pretty stocky and or tall if you look at them

Mandžukić and Jelavić for instance.
